Phantom’s Delay and 30th Anniversary

Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway in 1988 and has been running ever since. The musical was made into a movie in 2004 and a live recording of the show was made in 2011.

The show was set to open a production entirely in French at the Mogador Theatre in Paris tonight but, due to a fire that broke out in the basement on September 25, the show has been suspended indefinitely. The Paris production was set to star Sierra Boggess who has been playing the role of Christine off and on since 2004. The Mogador Theatre is only a few blocks away from the Opera Garnier, where the actual story of The Phantom of the Opera takes place. After the fire, the cast performed a few songs outside in front of the Opera Garnier.

Also this week Phantom celebrated its 30th anniversary on the West End in London with a concert. The concert included the current cast as well as members of the original company and guests in the special performance.
